A new island rises under clear skies, and nobody has done anything yet
At 13:52 on Thursday the map generated from seed 871284551, a fresh 3850 unit shoreline with no roads worn into it and no bodies waiting to be found. By the time this issue closes its window, barely more than an hour later, the island had recorded zero kills, which is either a triumph of diplomacy or simply a matter of nobody having found anybody else yet.
Three residents had logged in by the cutoff, the longest tenured among them a shade over an hour on the clock. The scoreboard, such as it is, shows nothing but zeroes: no kills, no deaths for two of the three, one resident already carrying a single death to their name before anyone else had fired a shot worth reporting. The island does not care about the order of these things. It has 28 days left to even the score.
Thursday's weather held clear across every sample taken, a rare full-clean label for a season that has not yet had the chance to turn on anyone.
Closing the ledger on the wipe just past
Before the new map finished loading, the old one settled its accounts. oji3 leaves the previous wipe with the top kill count on record, eight, and the longest stay on the island at 78.4 hours, a season spent mostly awake for it. KanoN closes out with the sharpest kill to death ratio anyone managed, 1.33, which on an island this size counts as restraint. None of the three carry over into the new map. The island does not remember loyalty, only numbers, and it has already reset all of them to zero.
Somebody will beat last wipe's kill record of eight before this season reaches its third issue.
The island will see a longer clear stretch than Thursday's opening day at least once more before wipe's end, and it will be treated as the exception it is.
Someone currently sitting on a perfect zero for kills and deaths will end the season with neither.
The scoreboard's first blood. Right now it reads all zeroes but one lonely death, and that will not last.
Whether Thursday's clear skies were the island's first and last good mood of the season.
How many residents the island has drawn in by the next count, and how quickly the quiet turns into something worth reporting.
