Six days in, the island finally finds something to shoot at
Wipe day closed with a scoreboard full of zeroes and a shrug. This week it closed with forty two kills on the board, a keycard rotation that has already climbed from the island's basic tier to its first level three swipes, and a casino wheel that paid out enough scrap on Tuesday morning to make several residents briefly reconsider their life choices. The quiet did not last, and nobody who has been here before expected it to.
The fighting arrived in clusters rather than a steady drizzle. A point blank axe kill opened Friday's account at H12, and by the small hours of Tuesday a stretch of grids around H13 and G12 had turned into something closer to a siege, with rifles trading back and forth across ranges past two hundred metres before the night was through. Elsewhere the island kept its ordinary business running underneath all of it: puzzle rooms got cracked, sometimes within minutes of loading and once after very nearly a full day of sitting untouched, crates kept restocking at the same handful of grids, and the farm beds turned out session after session of hemp, berries and corn without much fuss.
The sky, meanwhile, could not commit to an opinion. Thursday opened the week thundery and stayed the most unsettled day on record, then the weekend went squally without much rain to show for it, before three straight days of showers settled in as though the island had simply decided rain was easier than deciding.
The cards get heavier as the week goes on
The island logged 103 keycard swipes this week against 76 crates cracked open and 69 puzzle rooms cleared out, mostly on the familiar circuit of low tier doors. That circuit held steady until Wednesday, when the week's first level three swipes turned up at M-3 and V3, doubled up within hours of each other, a sign that someone finally had the hardware to go looking for the good rooms. Crates kept coming back to the same handful of grids all week, J5 and R21 chief among them, restocking on four separate days apiece as though the island simply likes those two spots. Puzzle timing ran the full range too: one room went unclaimed for very nearly twenty four hours before somebody finally cracked it, while another lasted all of five minutes.
Fifteen pulls, nothing to show, and then Tuesday happened
Saturday morning brought fifteen straight pulls on the caboose slot machine, ten scrap a go, every single one of them a loss inside barely a minute of play. The big wheel at K10 was kinder, if only in bursts: a run of small losing bets through Monday's small hours broke twice with payouts of 500 and 450 scrap, and by Tuesday morning the wheel was handing back 1,800 scrap on thousand scrap bets, twice before most of the island was awake. Six payouts landed across the week against forty seven bets placed, which is roughly the ratio the house prefers.
Three trips under, one of them a long one
The water stayed quiet this week. Only three dives went in and came back out, one pair barely over an hour, another edging past two hours before whoever went down there resurfaced. It is not a desk with much to say for itself yet, which on an island this busy elsewhere counts as its own kind of statement.
Hemp, berries and one very committed potato
Seventy seven sessions at the planters this week turned out a steady spread of hemp, corn, pumpkin and berries, with hemp runs turning up an all sixes genome late in the week, about as clean as the strand gets. The island's busiest grower logged 62 harvest sessions alone, well clear of anyone else at the beds.
Some lives ran long, most did not
Lives on the island this week ran anywhere from under an hour to the better part of a day. One stretch alive reached nearly nine and a quarter hours and closed with twelve animals down and nothing else to show for it, a life spent entirely on the hunt for wildlife rather than people. Another life logged twenty combat kills against scientists inside a single stretch alive without ever meeting another resident, proof that a life can be extremely eventful and still perfectly private. The longest single life recorded this week ran 19.8 hours.
Eleven trips to the vendor, most of them worth the walk
Eleven vendor sales went through this week, ranging from a modest 125 scrap up to a leading 750, with the top figure turning up more than once. One resident sold enough scrap across the week to top the industry honours outright at 1,500, well over double the single best sale anyone made in one trip.
Tuesday's small hours turned into the week's fiercest fighting
Forty two kills went into the book this week, opening with a bare-knuckled axe finish at H12 on Friday and closing out with a molotov and a shotgun trading blows at S2 on Wednesday. Saturday's fight around E7 ran through three separate kills inside an hour, rifle then shotgun then rifle again. But it was the overnight hours into Tuesday that did the real damage: a grenade, a rock and a jackhammer all found kills at E13 within twenty seconds of each other, and a running duel through H13 and G12 produced eight kills before dawn, the longest of them a rifle shot from 210 metres. Between the extremes the week also produced its share of the ordinary, a knife kill at close range, a compound bow at 61 metres, an axe, a rock, more grenades than anyone strictly needed.
The top of the board is not who has the most hours
BIGFISH94 sits first with 24 kills against 5 deaths in a little over 8 hours played, the best kill to death ratio on the island this wipe at 4.80, and both marks are now this wipe's live records. Jeffrey1657 has logged the most hours of anyone this week, 83 hours and 36 minutes, but carries only 3 kills against 43 deaths for the trouble, which is its own kind of record. Second on the kill count is ThatGuyDutton with 12 kills against 57 deaths in 68 hours and 18 minutes, a reminder that showing up does not guarantee winning.
Twenty seven swipes and a very patient farmer
One resident alone swiped keycards 27 times this week, better than a quarter of everything the island's doors saw. Another put in 62 sessions at the planters, and a third sold 1,500 scrap to the vendors, both well clear of the pack. The longest single life on the island ran 19.8 hours, and the busiest looter of elite rooms managed 13 of the week's 66.
Whether the level three keycards seen for the first time at M-3 and V3 turn into a habit, or stay a one-week novelty.
Whether the wheel keeps handing back four figure payouts or whether the house spends next week clawing it all back.
Whether the fighting keeps clustering into single fierce nights, the way it did around H13 and G12, or spreads itself thinner across the map.
