The map turns over, and the island starts counting again
At 14:13:43 on Thursday the island went blank: seed 669039719, four thousand two hundred fifty meters of coastline and desert nobody has walked yet. It did not stay blank long. Five minutes later the first Bow kit went out the door, and by the half hour mark thirty-three residents had spread themselves across gas stations, junkyards and a jungle ziggurat, doing what residents do on a fresh map, which is find something to shoot.
By the close of the window the community ledger read 168 NPCs killed, 270 barrels cracked, and 15 hours logged between them, all inside a session that started less than an hour earlier. BudsMcKenzie leads the earliest NPC count with 23 kills in forty minutes, one ahead of Dr. Horseman, M.D.'s nineteen. CyanN's first life on the map ran thirty nine minutes, thirty four of them spent out in the wild, and ended with eight player kills against zero animals and zero scientists, which is either efficient or a statement.
Thursday's weather logged clear across the board, not a bad way to open twenty eight days.
Eleven fights, eleven monuments, one very early leaderboard
The first hour sent residents to Oxum's Gas Station twice, the Junkyard, both wings of the Abandoned Supermarket, the Jungle Ziggurat twice, a Substation and the Mining Outpost, eleven skirmishes in all before the window closed. Ghee Buttersnaps and duncan52 opened at the gas station within minutes of each other. TooBy, who left last wipe holding the NPC record outright, spent his opening forty minutes at a modest fourteen kills, good enough for fifth on today's early board behind BudsMcKenzie's twenty three.
Two crates, thirty minutes each, gone in ten seconds flat
Both puzzle crates logged today took roughly half an hour to solve and were emptied within ten seconds of unlocking, which means somebody was standing at the door the whole time. The island does not reward patience so much as it rewards knowing exactly when patience ends.
The shredder gets fed before the hour is out
Two cars went into the shredder twenty three seconds apart mid afternoon, early proof that somebody already has a recycler running. IceKhaleesi turned the day's only recorded vendor sale, walking away with 25 scrap.
CyanN's first life: thirty nine minutes, eight bodies, no animals
CyanN spent thirty four of a thirty nine minute life out in the wild, two minutes at base, and about two and a half minutes inside monuments, and came out of it with eight player kills. Not one animal died for the effort, and not one scientist either. The wildlife can rest easy for now.
The numbers this season has to answer to
The board carries three marks forward from last wipe. TooBy set the NPC record at 3626 kills. Tom Cruise looted 526 coins, a figure that looks less impressive today after his run in with a fish. And shadow1100cc logged 240.7 hours on the island, which is ten straight days of a life most residents would call excessive.
Closing the book on last season
Before the reset, the island kept three names on its wall. TooBy walked off with the NPC crown at 3626 kills, a number the fresh map has already started chasing without knowing it yet. Tom Cruise looted 526 coins before the wipe took the ledger with it. And shadow1100cc simply stayed, 240.7 hours of a life measured out in the same twenty eight days everyone else gets. All three records survive into this season as the thing to beat, not because the island cares who wins, but because it enjoys watching people try.
TooBy, sitting mid-table with fourteen NPC kills forty minutes into day zero, will make a real run at his own 3626-kill record before day 28.
Tom Cruise, last wipe's coin king at 526, will need a better start than a mission and a lost fight with a fish to defend the throne.
Nobody touches shadow1100cc's 240.7-hour playtime record this season, and the island watches several people try anyway.
Whether BudsMcKenzie's early NPC lead holds once TooBy and the rest of the field find their rhythm.
Whether the ten-second crate lootings on day zero are luck or a sign residents already know these puzzle timers cold.
Whether Tom Cruise's rough opening, mission won, fish lost, turns into anything resembling his old coin-looting form.
