SEASON FINALE

TooBy closes the season on top with fewer hours than the men chasing him

Twenty six days after the seed rolled out, the board settles the way it settled every week since issue two: TooBy first, 193 hours and 9 minutes on the clock, 3,626 NPCs down. TheFlyingCow logged more time on the island than anyone at the top of the sheet, 211 hours and 18 minutes, and still finishes second, 400 NPCs behind. Further down, shadow1100cc put in more hours than either of them, 234 hours and 35 minutes, the most of anyone in the top ten, and that bought tenth place and 1,639 NPCs. The island has never much cared how long you stayed, only what you did while you were there.

CyanN's own hunt for the lead never closed the gap this paper kept asking about. Issue four had TooBy up by 985 kills. The season ends with CyanN in fifth on 2,455 NPCs, 1,171 behind, and no longer in the argument. Across the whole island the tally now reads 136.3 thousand NPCs killed, 79.5 thousand barrels looted, and 9,840 hours logged by 767 residents, all of it still climbing even after the paper stops watching.

Sunday brought the roughest sky of the entire season, thunder turning up in 44 percent of the day's samples, as if the island wanted the last full week to be memorable for something other than the leaderboard.

Grid V18 draws four visitors and not one crate opens

Four separate residents swiped grid V18's level two door this week, Soterios first at 22:01 Tuesday, then dubman, Stannivs, and TinglyMcMoist across the days that followed, and not one of the four logged a crate on the other side of it. Elsewhere the cards ran cleaner. duncan52 cleared grid O-3 alone, all three keycard levels inside three minutes and ten seconds on Wednesday afternoon, and popped the crate the instant the door opened. inspectorwong did the same at R0 a few minutes later, swiping level one through three by 17:44 and walking away with the loot twice over. The puzzle rooms kept their usual temper: one gave up its contents after just 41 minutes locked, at 00:25 Wednesday, while another held out for sixteen hours and forty eight minutes before finally cracking at 08:58 the same day.

Substations take the week's heaviest fire

Seventeen separate skirmishes ran through Substations of every size this week, more than any other monument on the map, with CheerioBumBum and CJ=) each returning to hit a different tier twice on Wednesday alone. Helicopters got their share too: CheerioBumBum downed two heli_easy patrols Wednesday, and Gabrio and yegii2 each drew a heli_medium on separate days. Not one of these fights was against another resident. The only real cooperation logged was medical, CJ=) and Lamb working a save together at 16:51 Wednesday, CJ=) doing the assist and Lamb finishing the heal, then swapping roles fourteen minutes later with demerung stepping in as the assist and CJ=) closing it out.

Crops stay feral as the season's biggest lives come in

Ten harvests came up between Tuesday night and Wednesday, red, white, blue, yellow, and green berries alongside corn, wheat, pumpkin, and a rose, gene strings as scattered as ever. Two life-story snapshots stood well above the rest of the field. TheFlyingCow's ledger closed a 29 hour, 32 minute life on Wednesday morning with 363 players and 163 scientists to its name. TooBy answered that same evening with a life of its own, 20 hours and 43 minutes alive, 50 players down and 263 scientists, more scientist kills in one stretch than most residents log across the whole season.

The vendor breaks its own ceiling three times

The scrap vendor usually tops out at 750, but this week it paid past that three times over: 2,250 to duncan52 on Friday evening, 1,250 to Lamb on Saturday, and 2,250 again to TooBy on Tuesday morning as the season wound down. Down at the water, fl0x quietly assembled eight fish across Saturday and Sunday, salmon, catfish, and yellowperch in no particular order, while BudsMcKenzie landed five in a single Wednesday evening session, a yellowperch, a catfish, two more yellowperch, and a salmon, all inside seventy two minutes.

TooBy feeds the wheel 2,000 scrap and gets silence back

Thursday morning brought the week's biggest single wager and its biggest single loss in the same motion: TooBy staked 2,000 scrap on the big wheel at 07:15 and watched it vanish whole, no payout logged. By mid-afternoon demerung had turned the tables entirely, four wheel bets worth 374 scrap combining into a single 450 scrap payout at 15:48, the week's largest return. popeyes ground out the long way round at the slot machine that same Thursday morning, twenty six spins at ten scrap apiece for two modest hits, 75 and 125 scrap, a net loss on the session, then came back Saturday for nine more spins that returned nothing at all.

Goat Scientist clears the seabed twice in under a day

Sixteen underwater crates came up between 15:33 and 15:40 Friday, all to Goat Scientist, and by Saturday morning the same resident was back for eighteen more, 06:50 to 07:01, thirty four crates across two sessions with barely twelve hours between them. Van kept a smaller, steadier rhythm across the week: four crates before dawn Saturday, six more before dawn Sunday, and a last pair Sunday night at 22:29, right as the sky outside turned to the season's roughest weather.

The reckoning

Issue one asked whether TooBy, already sitting on more hours than anyone else in that week's paper, would finish the season near the top of the board. It did better than near. TooBy leads outright, 193 hours and 9 minutes and 3,626 NPCs, ahead of TheFlyingCow's 211 hours and 3,226, with the added detail that shadow1100cc's 234 hours and 35 minutes, more than either of the top two, bought only tenth place. Call it correct, with interest.

The second prediction bet on the newer arrival who opened the wipe with three kills in thirty two minutes, guessing the name would either become one the island fears or turn up again in this column. It did neither. Five issues later that name has not resurfaced once. The island keeps some ledgers even the paper cannot read.

The third prediction was the safest of the three, that the wipe day's clean corn genes would not survive contact with the season. They did not. Every harvest logged since, corn, pumpkin, hemp, wheat, five colors of berry and a rose in this final week alone, came up with a different gene string than the last. Correct, and never seriously in doubt.

Whether TooBy comes back to defend the top of a fresh board, or whether a new seed scrambles the standings the way seeds always promise to and rarely quite do.

The next dispatch opens on a brand new island. This one is closing on its worst weather of the season. Whether that is an omen or just Tuesday.

The BZ Chronicle is drafted by machine from the island’s own event wire and read by a human before it prints. It never prints held wealth, base locations or anyone’s schedule. Rather not be named? Ask in Discord and the paper will leave you out.
