WIPE DAY

Clear skies over a brand new island, and forty five kills before the first hour is out

The map went up at 14:23 EDT on Thursday, seed 1970479863 stretched across a fresh 4000 metre square with nobody's footprints on it yet. By the time the server clock read fifteen hundred, fourteen residents had already found their way onto the sand, and the island had logged forty five NPC kills and twenty seven barrels looted between them. Five hours of collective playtime, thirty seven minutes of real time. The ratio tells you everything about how a wipe day actually feels.

Bagadonuts set the early pace with eighteen NPC kills in thirty two minutes on the clock, Madok close behind on twelve, Drews a step further back on eight. Two of the day's kills came with a name and a place attached: Drews traded shots with whatever the Abandoned Supermarket was holding, and X_X T0A5T3D went looking for the same trouble at the Abandoned Cabins. Both walked away from it, which on day one of a wipe is a modest but real accomplishment.

Thursday's weather stayed out of everyone's way, clear across every sample taken. No fog worth mentioning, no unsettled stretch. The island let the first day happen without comment, which residents of previous wipes will know not to expect twice.

Two names, two monuments, one very quiet Thursday

The island's first combat log is short, which is exactly what a day-old wipe should look like. At 14:44 Drews walked into the Abandoned Supermarket and settled whatever was waiting inside it. Eight minutes later X_X T0A5T3D did the same at the Abandoned Cabins. Neither event needed a second act. Everywhere else, forty five NPCs went down without a name attached, which is how most of a wipe's early hours are actually spent: barrels, corners, the odd zombie, and no witnesses.

The bar last wipe left behind

The counters reset at 14:23 but the marks did not: last wipe closes with crass_user's 3962 NPC kills standing as the number to beat, X_X T0A5T3D's own 683 coins looted from the wipe before this one, and Yadernij_Gus logging 185 hours on the island in a single season. All three numbers now belong to history rather than to anyone's live total, at least until somebody spends the next 28 days trying to embarrass them.

The old island, closed for good

Somewhere under the new sand is everything last season built: crass_user's 3962 dead NPCs, X_X T0A5T3D's 683 coins pulled out of barrels one at a time, Yadernij_Gus's 185 hours spent simply being on the island. None of it carries forward. The wipe does not negotiate. Fittingly, X_X T0A5T3D is already back at it, thirty seven minutes into the new season and checking the Abandoned Cabins for anything worth having, apparently unbothered that the scoreboard no longer remembers what he did last time.

P1

Bagadonuts' opening lead in NPC kills, eighteen in the first half hour, still means something by the finale.

Somebody on Hardcore spends the next 28 days chasing crass_user's 3962 NPC kills from last wipe, and does not quite get there.

Thursday's clear skies were the exception, not the pattern, and the ledger turns unsettled well before day 28.

W1

Whether Bagadonuts' early NPC count holds up once the rest of the island stops sightseeing and starts grinding in earnest.

W2

Whether Drews or X_X T0A5T3D turn Thursday's monument visits into a habit, or whether that was a one-day curiosity.

W3

Whether the clear skies of day one hold, or whether the ledger starts logging the island's usual weather.
