Chapter two opens

Spot owned a minicopter for 34 seconds

The season's first map closed with residents buying vehicles faster than they could keep them, and the island quietly taking each one back.

Spot bought a minicopter on 12 October and had crashed it 34 seconds later. Few purchases on the island have been reviewed so quickly, and none with such a firm verdict.

The chapter's closing days were full of competition. Jester also bought a minicopter that day and lasted four minutes, and the island's official finding is that nobody else was involved. freakyfrog40 tried the water instead, bought a rowboat on 11 October and was killed by a scientist three minutes later.

The map has now been wiped. The minicopters are gone, the rowboat is gone, and so is every base the island had not already taken. Blueprints carry over, and so does the season, with 21 days still on it.

What the residents carry into chapter two is mostly knowledge. In Spot's case it is a fairly specific piece of it.

The Wire

01 Oct 15:50. The map's first killing of one resident by another happened at Airfield, with a hunting bow, inside two hours of the map opening.

01 Oct 20:48. Somebody opened an elite crate at Large Harbor for the first time this map.

03 Oct 16:24. A resident put 43 scrap on the big wheel and got 86 back, which is the wheel's idea of a good mood.

11 Oct 20:42. A horse was cut down with a machete at O19 with its rider still aboard.

12 Oct 00:38. A boat of 29 blocks and 29 deployables was launched at C18.

13 Oct 23:33. Another boat went into the water at K3, built from 21 blocks and nine deployables.

14 Oct 00:29. A slot machine took 6 and returned nothing.

15 Oct 04:10. A resident fell in the Train Tunnel on the map's last morning, took 30 damage and walked away.

Crime & Courts

Biggest base of the week falls to satchels

244 building blocks at J6 lost their cupboard late on 12 October.

On the night of 12 October a base of 244 building blocks at J6 lost its cupboard to explosive satchels, the biggest base to fall all week. It was one of ten bases raided in the week.

All ten are gone now anyway, along with every base that held. The island is impartial about these things.

Three locked crates hacked by one resident and emptied by another

The slow work and the quick work were done by different people.

Three times in the chapter's closing days, one resident did the patient work of hacking a locked crate and another did the brisk work of emptying it.

Twice it happened at The Dome, once in the small hours of 11 October and again on the afternoon of 12 October. In between, late on 11 October, the same arrangement played out at D-1. In each case the resident who did the hacking left with the experience.

The longest shot of the map was never beaten

Two feuds also ended where the wipe found them.

The map's longest kill, 223.7 metres with a bolt rifle at P19 on 5 October, was still the longest when the map was wiped. The last issue asked whether anyone would beat it. Nobody did.

Two feuds closed with the map. The one last issue had at four kills to two finished at four kills to two, neither side able to change the subject. The other went further, ending at five kills to two. Neither pair has said whether it intends to resume on the new map, and the island has not asked.

The Ranch

One ranch, 169 calves

The island's busiest ranch recorded 169 births over the chapter: 88 calves and 81 male calves. It was a straightforward triumph of patience and feed, and the paper is glad to print it straight.

The herd has gone the way of everything else on the old map. The rancher keeps the know-how.

New Arrivals

Newcomer finishes a mission eighteen minutes after arriving

Three new residents completed missions inside their first few hours.

On the map's final morning, one newcomer completed a treasure mission 0.3 hours after setting foot on the island, about eighteen minutes. Earlier in the chapter two others managed the same within their first afternoon, one at 2.7 hours on 5 October and another at 3.1 hours on 12 October.

They were among 78 new residents this chapter. The island was quick to teach most of them other lessons, but these three got a mission done first, and that counts.

Around the Island

The grid came up and the satellite came down

The island's power grid reached its fourth stage on 13 October. The next morning the satellite fell at K3, as if the two had been arranged. With a day to go before the wipe, nobody had much time to enjoy either.

Obituaries

A second life, six minutes long

On the evening of 10 October one resident brought another back to life. The second life lasted six minutes and ended at an auto turret. The island regards revivals as a loan, and it collected promptly.

Grenades, a trap and a horse: the closing days' self-inflicted record

比基尼海滩蟹堡王餐厅第一黑心蟹老板 had a full 13 October: killed by their own F1 grenade 17 minutes into one life, and by their own shotgun trap 37 seconds into another, without clothes. 常凯申 lasted 38 minutes that day before an explosive of their own ended things, and on the same day was also killed by a horse, 11 minutes in.

dezz憎 set the pace a day earlier, naked, 47 seconds into a life, with a molotov that turned out to be pointed the wrong way. The equipment, in every case, worked exactly as designed.

Two residents taken by the island's transport

Skippy survived 50 minutes on 12 October before being killed by a pedal bike. On 13 October FunnierAxis was killed by a minicopter 12 minutes in. The island's vehicles spent the chapter being destroyed by residents, and on these two occasions returned the favour.

The week’s awards

Buyer's Remorse Cup
To Spot, who bought a minicopter and crashed it 34 seconds later, completing the whole cycle of ownership before most residents have found the throttle.
The Self Destruct Prize
To 常凯申, who lasted 38 minutes on 13 October before the explosive that ended it turned out to be their own.
Hoisted by Their Own Petard
To 比基尼海滩蟹堡王餐厅第一黑心蟹老板, who was 37 seconds into a life, without clothes, when their own shotgun trap did precisely what it had been set up to do.

The week ran mostly to passing showers, turned squally on Sunday and Monday, and closed with Wednesday's showers, when rain turned up in 16 percent of readings. Clear sky still showed in most readings every day, which the island considers a courtesy.

Watch next week

  • You'll want to see whether anyone on the new map beats the 223.7 metre bolt rifle shot that outlasted the whole first chapter.
  • Watch whether any base on the new map falls bigger than the 244 building blocks that went to satchels at the end of the last one.
  • See whether the residents who blew themselves up in the closing days carry the habit over along with their blueprints.

The chapter just closed

The season's first map opened on 1 October with the wipe day briefing promising thirty five days on a fresh seed. The first resident killed by another went down at Airfield that same afternoon, to a hunting bow. By the end of week one the front page belonged to a newcomer who reached the Oil Rig's elite crate 4.7 hours after arriving.

The second week was louder. A 244 block base at J6 fell to satchels, three hacked crates were emptied by people who had not hacked them, the power grid reached its fourth stage and the satellite came down at K3. The longest kill of the map, 223.7 metres with a bolt rifle, was set on 5 October and never bettered, and two feuds ended at four kills to two and five kills to two.

Across the fortnight the island logged 6,577 events and took in 78 new residents, several of whom finished missions within hours of arriving. The bases, herds and minicopters are gone now. The blueprints and 21 days of season remain, and the island, as ever, is in no hurry.

The BZ Chronicle is drafted by machine from the island’s own event wire and read by a human before it prints. It never prints held wealth, base locations or anyone’s schedule.
