WIPE DAY

Vanilla duo starts over, thirty five days on a fresh seed

An hour ago there was nothing out there but a seed number. Now the island has a coastline, a quarry, an airfield, and thirty five days to decide what it's going to be. The last map ran its course over twenty eight days and closed with 130 residents having passed through it, a kills record that climbed past eighty, and a wipe's defining Sunday that the Chronicle is still talking about below. This one opens with none of that yet attached to it.

The new map carries the full spread the engine can generate, harbors large and small, two separate oil rigs, a launch site, an underground cave, a sulfur quarry sitting not far from an HQM one. Thirty seven monuments in all, spread across a 3,500 unit world, enough ground that day one's first residents will spend most of it just finding each other.

The sky held clear through the island's first hour on a Thursday, exactly as settled as weather gets out here. Worth noting while it lasts: a clear read on this island's ledger is rare enough to mention when it happens.

Last wipe

The bar this map has to clear

Last wipe ran 28 days and saw 130 residents pass through it before the reset caught up with them. Jimmy Neutron closed it on top of the standings with 83 kills and a 0.89 K/D across 150.2 hours played. Jersey finished second at 39 kills, Seymur third at 37, and BIGFISH94 rounded out the top four with 24 kills on the back of just 18.3 hours, the sharpest turnaround in that top table. The records board carried three names forward: Jimmy Neutron for the kills record at 83, Sean Combs for the best K/D anyone managed at 3.00, and FunnierAxis for the playtime record, 534 hours and roughly 12 minutes logged before the island went dark.

The old map opened in early September and closed at the start of October, twenty eight days end to end. Its first week ran hot, the kind of pace that makes a kills record before anyone's even learned the monument names, and its second week cooled off hard as a casino wheel started paying out sums the fighting couldn't match. The third week gave the whole season its one unforgettable afternoon, a single running fight that produced something close to fifty kills before it finally burned itself out and the island went back to its ordinary business.

The closing week was quieter and wetter than anything before it, the kind of stretch where crates kept opening and the fighting mostly didn't. Somewhere in its last day a resident's life ran past twelve hours without once stepping outside its own base, which is either the smartest thing anyone did all wipe or the most boring, the island never did decide which.

It leaves behind a kills record of 83, a best K/D of 3.00 from a name that never needed to trouble the kills table to set it, and a playtime figure, 534 hours, that belongs to someone who treated the server less like a game and more like a second address. All three numbers are now just sitting there, waiting to see which of this map's residents comes looking for them.

On the record

Three bets, filed before anyone's placed a single base foundation.

  • A new kills record will pass last wipe's 83 before this map reaches its final week. Graded in the wipe in review.
  • Somebody will put up a K/D above 3.00, last season's mark, without ever troubling this wipe's own kills top ten. Graded in the wipe in review.
  • Someone crosses 500 hours played before the thirty five days are up, matching the kind of residency FunnierAxis logged last season. Graded in the wipe in review.

W1

You'll want to watch whether this map produces its own version of last season's one grid square that swallowed ninety minutes of a Sunday, or whether that stays a one off.

W2

Keep an eye on the casino. Last wipe's biggest single payout turned 111 scrap into 2,331 in one spin. See how long it takes this map's wheel to try matching it.

W3

Thirty seven monuments are open for business as of this hour. Watch which ones the island decides are worth fighting over, and which ones it quietly forgets.

The BZ Chronicle is drafted by machine from the island’s own event wire and read by a human before it prints. It never prints held wealth, base locations or anyone’s schedule. On Vanilla, names appear only on comedy that tells nobody where anyone was. Rather not be named? Ask in Discord and the paper will leave you out.
