A hundred and twenty kills mark the island's first full week
The island's first kill landed at grid K20 on Thursday at 17:10, a semi automatic rifle catching someone from 48.7 meters out. By the time the week closed on Wednesday night the tally behind it had grown to a hundred and twenty falls, and the blank scoreboard the Chronicle printed on wipe day already reads like ancient history.
The rest of the island stayed just as busy. A hundred and fifty three keycards swiped through doors, a hundred and fifty five puzzle rooms gave up their loot, and a hundred and thirty four crates got cracked open somewhere on the map. The farms turned out a hundred and twenty six separate harvest sessions worth of hemp, corn, pumpkin, berries and the odd orchid, and the vendors rang up twenty five sales between them, one of which, on Wednesday, paid out three times the going rate.
Friday was the roughest day the sky managed all week, a quarter of its readings catching rain or worse, and the fog banks climbed to 0.55 on both squally days that followed it. Thursday and Monday came in clear from end to end, which on this island counts as an event in itself.
A hundred and fifty five puzzles, one very patient loot room
The island's doors and crates kept their usual pace this week: a hundred and fifty three keycard swipes, a hundred and fifty five puzzle rooms cleared, and a hundred and thirty four crates cracked open across the map. Most of that traffic moved fast, one puzzle went from finished to looted in under seven minutes, but at least one sat solved for the better part of a day before anyone came back for it. Alongside all that, the race to be first through an elite crate played out a hundred and five separate times, a quieter contest than the gunfire but just as constant.
Thirty six bets, three payouts, one very bad Wednesday
The wheel and the slots took thirty six bets across the week and handed back money on only three of them. The week's single best moment came early, a hundred scrap paid out on day one. By Wednesday afternoon the house had stopped being generous entirely: one session saw bets of 250, 125, 125, 250, 250 and 125 scrap go down in a row, and every one of them came back with nothing.
Pumpkins, hemp, and a couple of orchids
A hundred and twenty six separate sessions at the planters turned out pumpkin, hemp, wheat, corn, red and blue and yellow and white berries, and, twice, something rarer: orchids, harvested on the fifth and sixth days of the week. Nobody's getting rich off flowers, but the variety says something about how much of the island spent its week quietly tending dirt instead of shooting at each other.
A two hour rampage, twenty two scientists deep
Somewhere in the small hours of Sunday, one life ran barely two hours from start to finish and still found time to put down twenty two scientists before it ended, most of that spent within sight of a monument. Further along in the week, the island logged a life that had already run past 62 hours by the time its story was written down, fifty eight of those hours spent based rather than out in the world, with fifteen animals, five scientists and one other resident to its name by the end. Two hundred and seventy six lives in all were logged this week, most of them a good deal quieter than either of those.
One sale paid triple, two chutes opened
Twenty five vendor cashouts moved through the week, most of them the standard 750 scrap, a few smaller runs at 125, and one outlier on Wednesday that rang up 2250, three times the usual rate. In the air, two parachute jumps were logged, one covering nearly two kilometers after a deploy at just 38 meters, the other barely a hop, under a second airborne before the canopy did its work.
A hundred and twenty falls, some from very far away
The week's fighting produced a hundred and twenty recorded kills, everything from a rock to the skull at grid C5, twice, once on Friday and again on Sunday, to a bolt action rifle finding someone from 232.6 meters out on Monday morning. One deployed satchel charge at grid M9 caught two residents at the same instant, tidy work for cheap explosives. Not everyone who went down stayed down, either: thirteen times this week somebody hauled a wounded resident back from the edge instead of letting the island have them.
The names to beat, for now
Jimmy Neutron holds the kills record for this wipe at 32, well clear of the field this early. Sean Combs owns the season's best K/D at 3. And FunnierAxis, who logged 501 hours last wipe before the reset caught up with all of it, is already back over 169 hours this time around with three weeks still on the clock.
Thirty one swipes, one serious industrialist
Somebody swiped thirty one keycards this week, more than anyone else bothered with, and somebody else's single life ran 17.8 hours without ending, the longest anyone managed. But the number worth sitting with is the 6750 scrap one resident moved through the vendors, nine times what a standard cashout pays.
A hundred and twenty kills is the number to measure against once week two closes its books. Watch whether the island keeps that pace or the fighting cools off.
One puzzle room sat finished for the better part of a day before anyone collected it. Watch whether that becomes a habit or stays a one off.
The sky turned squally three times this week with fog well above the island's usual haze. Watch whether it settles down or keeps testing everyone's roof.
