The wipe day briefingEarly edition
A new island rises at 13:52
The map generated at 13:52 EDT, seed 2029314811, and by three o'clock the whole of it was still soft underfoot. Five residents had wandered in by the time this issue closed its window, and between them they had logged three hours on an island that owed nobody anything yet.
Nobody has died on purpose. Nobody has killed anyone at all. The scoreboard reads zero across every column that matters, which is the one honest thing an island ever says about its first afternoon: give it time.
Two keycard swipes and one ear of corn are the whole of the recorded history so far. The Chronicle will take what it can get.
Two swipes, one quiet afternoon
The first alarm of the season went off at a level one door in grid M12, not long after two in the afternoon. Seven minutes later a second level one swipe registered clear across the map at O5. That is the entirety of the island's monument business so far: two doors opened, nothing yet taken that anyone has reported losing.
The first ear of corn
At 14:20, less than half an hour into the wipe, somebody's corn came in. Genotype WYYXWX, unremarkable as these things go, but it holds the honor of being the island's first recorded harvest of the season. Everything the farm desk writes about for the next twenty-eight days starts from this one stalk.
Everyone starts at zero
The current standings show exactly what a first afternoon should: nobody has a kill, nobody has a K/D above zero, and the playtimes cluster in minutes rather than hours. Meatdagger sits atop the kills table on a technicality, thirty minutes played and one death already banked. Jersey and Hiroshi have gone the other direction, quiet and undamaged at fourteen and twenty-six minutes. FunnierAxis and Jimmy Neutron round out the visible slice at forty-one and fifty-nine minutes, each carrying a single death and nothing to show for it yet.
The season's targets were set last wipe and left standing when the map reset. Jersey's 25 kills, a cat with alzheimers's 2.00 K/D, and FunnierAxis's 501 hours are the numbers this new board now has twenty-eight days to embarrass.
What the old island left behind
The map that ended last night went out owing three names something. Jersey leaves with the kills record intact at 25, a cat with alzheimers departs holding the best K/D anyone managed at 2.00, and FunnierAxis quietly logged 501 hours before the wipe caught up with all of it. None of those numbers survive the reset. All of them survive as the bar.
Someone crosses 500 hours on this fresh map before the season reaches its back half, chasing the number FunnierAxis left behind.
The island's kills record falls before Jersey's 25 gets a fortnight to breathe.
A K/D above 2.00 shows up on the board before day 14, and it belongs to someone the standings haven't noticed yet.
You'll want to see whether the island's first kill arrives quietly or with a scoreboard's worth of noise behind it.
Two level one swipes opened the week. Watch whether the island's monuments start paying out anything worth a mention.
Thursday came in clear across the board. See how long that lasts once the island's weather gets moving properly.
