The wipe day briefingEarly edition
The island opens for business and already keeps a body count
At 14:00 EDT on Thursday the sixth of August, Survival went back to zero. Seed 669039719 unrolled across a map 4250 meters on a side under a clear sky, fog sitting at a mild 0.07 and no rain or thunder on the ledger. It was, by the numbers, a gentle day to be born on.
The island did not treat it gently. Bow kits went out to eight residents inside the first twelve minutes. Monuments from the Substation to the Lighthouse to the Apartment Complex had scientists shooting back before 15:00. Two puzzle rooms cracked within nine seconds of each other. Somewhere in the middle of all that, at 14:41:55, the season logged its first heal.
One resident did not make it to the one hour mark. The island did not seem to mind.
Two puzzles fall before the dust settles
By 14:50 Thursday, two puzzle rooms had already gone down within nine seconds of one another, each solved in a little over thirty minutes and stripped bare within ten seconds of unlocking. Two minutes later Nuktuk Bo swiped a keycard through a door at grid Z12, level one, the first name this season on a card reader's log.
Monuments earn their keep on day one
Seven separate monuments took fire in the wipe's opening quarter hour. IceKhaleesi drew first blood against the Substation's scientists at 14:43:48 Thursday. mahoni06 worked the Jungle ruin, Ze pequeno the Harbor, MYTHOS the Lighthouse, and TooBy the Apartment Complex, where doseyourdome had already been busy once at the Abandoned Supermarket before returning to finish the job ten minutes later.
The season's first corn comes in clean
Ajunta Pall harvested the wipe's first corn at 14:51:32 Thursday, genes still uncorrupted. Deafjams followed four minutes later with a second cob and a different set of genes. It will not stay this tidy for long.
Thirty one minutes, three kills, one quiet ending
One of the newer arrivals opened the season fast. Twenty eight minutes wild with no base to hide in, then just under four minutes somewhere with walls, and in that short window three other players went down along with one animal. At 14:53:18 Thursday the life ended anyway, thirty one minutes and fifty seconds after it began. The island rarely lets a good start go unanswered.
The first save of the season
At 14:41:55 Thursday, less than an hour into the wipe, TinglyMcMoist got a fallen resident stable enough to matter, and Smellyhead delivered the heal that closed it out. The board resets every season. Somebody has to be first on it.
TooBy, arriving with more hours on the clock than anyone else in this week's paper, finishes the season somewhere near the top of the board.
The resident who opened the wipe with three kills in thirty two minutes either becomes a name the island fears, or turns up in this column again.
This week's clean corn genes are the last clean thing about the gardens. Expect the crossbreeding to get feral within a week.
Whether the resident who opened the season with three kills in half an hour is still standing, or has joined the column that buried them.
What Nuktuk Bo's level one keycard at Z12 was worth, and whether anyone follows the trail to level two.
Whether the first week's monument traffic turns into an early lead for the residents already putting in the hours, TooBy and doseyourdome chief among them.
