WEEK TWO

One pvp kill all week, and it lands at zero range

Friday evening at Y4, at zero range, a rocket ended TooBy's day. Cuttlefish delivered it at 20:52, the island's only resident on resident kill of the week, and it landed on the same man who currently leads the wipe in NPCs killed, coins looted and hours logged. There is a kind of justice to it: run up a big enough lead on every other board, and eventually somebody brings a launcher.

Season to date the island has logged 76.5 thousand NPCs killed, 56.8 thousand barrels cracked and 6,045 hours between 518 residents, numbers that keep climbing whether or not anyone is watching. This week alone added 2,853 stretches of fighting scientists and wildlife, 835 keycard swipes, 1,244 puzzles solved and 169 wheel bets at Bandit Camp, against exactly one shot fired resident to resident. Jagawatz, last week's marathon runner, logged nothing bigger than a single assisted heal this week, and H14, the grid that took three lives in one Friday hour last issue, did not see a repeat: the week's only kill happened somewhere else entirely.

The week opened clear on Wednesday and found a second clear day on Monday, but the days between went steadily worse. Saturday turned squally with fog banks thickening to 0.55, well past the island's usual haze, and Sunday's showers were the least settled day the week produced. Fifteen days remain on the map.

Nearly three thousand fights logged, and only one of them was personal

The island's residents spent 2,853 separate stretches fighting scientists and wildlife this week, at Oxum's Gas Station, Substation, Mining Outpost and the Military Tunnel more than anywhere else. Almost none of it turned on each other. The lone exception came Friday at 20:52, at Y4, when Cuttlefish put a rocket into TooBy at point blank range, the week's only pvp kill against 2,853 fights that never needed one. Nope logged more of those fighting sessions than anyone else on the island, sixty nine of them.

Monuments and alarms

Swipes climb past eight hundred while two crates do the heavy lifting

Keycards turned 835 times this week and puzzles gave up their contents 1,244 times, with Large Oil Rig and Military Tunnel supplying more repeat business than any other stop on the map, cracked open again by different hands on different days. Tom Cruise accounted for more of that traffic than anyone else, sixty eight keycard swipes across the week.

Bandit Camp's wheel keeps the lights on

Four hundred ninety three gambling outcomes went through the island's machines this week, with 169 bets placed at the Bandit Camp wheel and 34 payouts returned. TooBy turned a 200 scrap bet into 1,200 on Thursday afternoon before losing the follow-up spin, and Ghee Buttersnaps matched that energy late Tuesday with a 704 scrap payout off a stake a fraction of the size. Neither touched CyanN's week: the single biggest payout the ledger recorded, 10,500 scrap, landed in his lap. BudsMcKenzie simply never stopped playing, twenty three bets before the week was out.

One dive supplies more than half the week's crates

Twenty five crates came up out of the water this week and deep traversals were logged 29 times, but the week belongs to I.Fight.Dirty, who surfaced fifteen crates in a single sitting between 02:21 and 02:38 on Monday morning, better than half the island's total on one tank of air. chaseam0113 was the water's other regular, back down more than once across the week without ever staying for the show.

Hemp keeps the planters full

The island logged 898 sessions at the planters this week, hemp turning up more than any other crop, with corn, wheat, pumpkin and a full run of berries filling the gaps around it. Potatoes made a rare appearance too, care of JayTizzle in Monday's small hours.

The obituaries

A fifty minute life with a clean sheet, and a ten hour one that wasn't

Meelow's Saturday life lasted fifty three minutes and never once touched home, all of it spent out in the world, and still ended with nineteen residents down and not one scientist so much as scratched. W00ZIE went the other way entirely: ten hours and forty three minutes alive, better than three hours of it spent inside monuments, and a hundred forty seven scientists dead by the time it ended Tuesday morning. And one of the newer arrivals put in a fifty minute life this week that closed with nothing to show for it at all, no players, no scientists, no animals. The island doesn't keep score on nothing, but it noticed.

Industry and transit

Five cars, five minutes, and a scrapyard that never sleeps

Vendors changed hands 102 times this week and cars went into the shredder eight times, five of them within five minutes of each other on Saturday morning. Fishing lines came back with 19 catches against 21 failures, kits went out the door 108 times, 56 missions were completed and cargo dropped in eleven times. Dayebreak sold more scrap than anyone else, 4,750 of it, and Robin landed more fish than the rest of the island combined, five catches to nobody else's better than a couple.

The records board

TooBy quietly owns every column on the board

This wipe's records now read TooBy straight across: 2,042 NPCs killed, 493 coins looted, and just over 136 hours logged, ahead of CyanN's 1,986 kills in a race that started this week close enough to matter. Elsewhere the island logged 527 elite first-loots, 563 skills learned and 97 purge wins, with Kruuzco winning more purges than anyone else at seven.

Fifteen crates in one sitting, and a wheel spin that paid for itself many times over

I.Fight.Dirty's Monday morning dive alone accounted for more than half the week's crates. CyanN's 10,500 scrap payout dwarfs every other figure the casino produced this week. And Kruuzco's seven purge wins put him ahead of the rest of the island's raiders by a comfortable margin.

Resident of the week

ghosted toast

The week's centerpiece came Monday night. At 20:56 a twenty seven hour and thirty eight minute life closed out with two hundred fifty scientists dead and ninety eight residents besides, five hours and twenty seven minutes of it spent inside monuments rather than out in the open where the rest of it happened. Getting there ran through a fight at Abandoned Supermarket at 20:38, and the life that followed it didn't waste time either: by 21:40 a Patrol Helicopter had gone down, and by 22:17 that fresh life had already ended too, a short one this time, just over an hour, three scientists to its name.

The rest of the week kept to the island's ordinary rhythms around the edges of that. Red berries and blue berries went into the planters early on, a level one door opened at Radtown, another at Train Yard, and a fishing line came back empty at 23:51 on Saturday only to pull in a herring one minute later. The wheel at Bandit Camp took 140 scrap in one sitting late Sunday, not long after paying out 102 a few minutes before, the kind of week that nets out close to even everywhere except the scoreboard that matters.
