JULY SEASON · FINAL ISSUE · VANILLA QUAD

Seventy-seven residents, seven hundred and fifty-three hours, one hundred and seventy-five kills

The July island on Quad closes on Thursday 6 August at 2PM Eastern, and it closes quietly. Seventy-seven people held a passport here at some point in the month. Between them they spent a little over 753 hours on the ground, and in all that time they killed each other exactly 175 times. That is one death for roughly every four and a third hours of daylight. Quad was not a slaughterhouse. It was a workshop with the occasional argument.

Two residents carried an outsized share of the month. Jeffrey1657 logged 121 hours and 10 minutes, and ThatGuyDutton 107 hours and 54 minutes. Nobody else reached a hundred. Beneath them the island thins out fast: ten residents cleared 24 hours, and thirty-two never made it past their first. The mean stay was 9.8 hours, a figure almost nobody actually lived.

One housekeeping note, said once and not repeated. The event wire only came online at the end of this wipe, which is why this issue has no timestamps, no weather, no obituaries and no casino ledger. From next wipe the paper can watch the island happen rather than count it afterwards, and the smaller stories, the doors, the alarms, the bad decisions at three in the morning, will have somewhere to go.

COMBAT DESK

Rafaeldoga takes the month by three, and Bathtub Barracuda leaves without a scratch on the ledger

The kill column on Quad was shared out unusually evenly for a season with only 175 of them. Rafaeldoga finished on 22, ThatGuyDutton on 19, FeelsDankMan1 on 17. That is three residents holding a third of every death recorded on the island, and the remaining 117 spread across everyone else who ever picked up a weapon.

The strangest line in the whole record belongs to Bathtub Barracuda: sixteen kills, zero deaths, a K/D of 16.00 and no evidence at all of a bad night. ThatGuyDutton finished 19 and 3, which is a working rate for someone who also spent 108 hours on the ground and therefore had far more opportunities to be wrong. Chuck Stank sits third on the ratio board at 12 and 7, the most human number in the top three.

And three residents put in more than ten hours each without killing anybody at all. Whatever they were doing here, it was not this.

THE RECORDS BOARD

Two men held the island up

Jeffrey1657 finished the month at 121 hours and ThatGuyDutton at 108. Behind them the drop is sheer: FeelsDankMan1 at 42, Merkinstien at 41, Rafaeldoga at 36. The top two account for more than 30 percent of every hour anyone spent on Quad in July, and the longest single presence on the island, 121 hours and 10 minutes, belongs to Jeffrey1657 alone.

The other end of the board is where most of the population actually lives. Thirty-two of the seventy-seven residents spent under an hour here and then never came back. That is not a scandal. It is what the first hour of a wipe looks like when the island is already full of people who arrived on day one and stayed.

The reckoning

There is nothing to grade. This is the first issue The BZ Chronicle has ever published, so the season carried no predictions into its finale and the paper starts the August wipe owing the reader three of them instead. What can be set down now is the baseline against which every future July will be read.

The sibling islands make Quad look small and busy. Solo held 273 residents across 2,782 hours for 322 kills. Duo held 119 across 1,072 hours for 216. Quad held 77 across 753 hours for 175, which works out to more kills per resident and more kills per hour than either neighbour. Fewer people, less time, more trouble per minute of it.

Watch next week
W1

The wire is live from the moment the August map loads. Watch whether Jeffrey1657 and ThatGuyDutton, who between them held up a third of July, show up in the first hours or let somebody else set the pace.

W2

Bathtub Barracuda closed July with sixteen kills and an empty death column. Watch for the night that column finally gets its first entry, and who writes it.

W3

Thirty-two residents spent under an hour on Quad and left. Watch how many of them come back for a fresh island, and whether the mean stay of 9.8 hours means anything at all next month.
