The island reopens and immediately starts locking doors
The map came back at 14:00 EDT on Thursday, three thousand eight hundred units of fresh dirt with the seed 1755048929 baked into every rock and treeline. Nobody has died yet. Nobody has built anything worth screenshotting. What the island has done, in its first hour, is lock some doors and let a few people pick them.
By 14:43 the first keycard had gone into the first reader, a green swipe out at grid L14. Eleven minutes later the action moved to M5, where a green card opened a door and then, sixty seconds after that, a blue one opened the next. Two grids, three swipes, one hour on the clock. The season's opening move is a lockpick, which feels about right.
Twenty eight days remain. The fog sat at 0.35 through the afternoon, no rain, no thunder, nothing to slow anyone down on the walk to the first red card door.
Two rooms, three cards, one hour
The first hour of a wipe usually belongs to whoever gets to a monument door before anyone else thinks to try. This one belonged to two grids. L14 took a single green swipe and went quiet. M5 took two, a green followed by a blue inside the same minute, which suggests either very good luck or a queue forming outside a door that had not finished creaking open.
Someone will rack up more hours staring into a furnace this season than most residents spend on the whole island.
The Gold Coin economy does not exist here, so the first fortune of the season will still be counted in scrap, the old fashioned way.
By the time this season closes, the blue card door at M5 will have opened more times than anyone bothered to count.
You will see whether the pace set in hour one, three swipes across two grids, holds up once the map fills in.
You will start seeing names attached to numbers as the standings board wakes up.
You will learn whether the fog that sat over Thursday afternoon was a preview of the season's weather or a one day fluke.
